“One morning, feeling quite energetic they took the Bentley and drove the short distance to St. Mawes, to wander around the village, inspect the sailing boats […]. It was a day of cloud and sunshine, the sun blinking in and out, the soft, sweet air spiced by the freshness of the salt breeze”.

THE EXPERIENCE
Cornwall
St Mawes is one of the prettiest fishing villages in Cornwall, with beautiful galleries, elegant boutiques (make sure to check out Onda) and great restaurants.

There is a charming three-mile coastal stroll past Henry VIII’s castle to the 13th century church of St Just-in-Roseland and its picturesque churchyard. Head to the Hidden Hut on Portscatho beach, a seaside shack serving delicious home-style food (book in advance for one of their infamous Feast Nights!).

Take the ferry to Falmouth for gourmet fish & chips at Rick Stein’s or the freshest oysters at The Wheelhouse. From May till the end of September, book a sail around the bay on Pinuccia, Hotel Tresanton’s classic yacht, and ask for rosé and Cornish crab sandwiches on board.

Go west to explore the coast that has inspired many English artists and admire their art at the Newlyn Art Gallery and the Tate St Ives and take a stroll in the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden (our favourite). Lunch at the Porthminster Café alone is worth the drive.

A bounty of famous subtropical gardens, such as Glendurgan, Trebah and Bonython are just a short drive away. Tintagel Castle, allegedly the birthplace of King Arthur, offers breathtaking views of the sea. Merlin is said to have lived in the caves below and whether this is truth or legend, guests of Hotel Tresanton can now explore the site with an archaeologist and decide for themselves.
