This two-acre private island, just a 25-minute boat ride from the resort, is the epitome of island chic and can be yours for a romantic, restorative or adventurous getaway. Completely unwind in your own private paradise as the island caretaker husks a fresh coconut for you and then prepares a BBQ seafood banquet, Creole style.

For those feeling energetic, grab a bike and head to the nearby charming seafront fishing village of Placencia. Cool down with a quick pit stop at Tutti Frutti – this local gelateria has been checked (more than once!) by our very own Italian Gelato cognoscenti and has their seal of approval. A visit in the late afternoon or evening will have your hips swaying and bare feet tapping to the local rhythms of drums and guitars in the many restaurants and bars in the village. If you’re travelling with little ones, ice cream can also be found a little closer to home at the Kid’s Bar at Turtle Inn – although obeying the ‘No Adults Allowed’ sign is very much down to your brood.

For adventurous families, exploring Monkey River is a must. Gliding along mangrove-covered estuaries, you’ll have the chance to observe many wildlife species including crocodiles and manatees. Hike through rainforest trails and spot troops of howler monkeys or visit the world’s only jaguar preserve; a 128,000-acre wildlife sanctuary that provides a crucial habitat for an estimated 80 jaguars.

Cap off your stay with dinner at Auntie Liuba’s restaurant on the lagoon side of the resort, where you’ll enjoy local cuisine. Just don’t forget to bring a bottle of something special from Turtle Inn’s wine aquarium, which boasts the largest wine collection in the Caribbean. The night ends with the traditional lantern ceremony that’s a favourite with the kids. As the warm evening currents carry these flickering lights into the distant heavens you’ll already be wishing on these shooting stars for your next trip to Turtle Inn.
